Background

Car parking is a major problem in urban areas in both developed and developing countries. Many drivers have a lot of bother finding a parking space. There is much space to park in front of a shop or house. Hence, our team decided to create an app to match parking for drivers and landholders who are pleased to share their space to drivers.

Challenge

① I started from competitive analysis to understand other parking apps' strengths, weakness, and unmet needs.

② In order to ensure the demand ratio of private parking, we made the questionnaire.

One quarter of people need an app for finding parking spaces.

80% of people are considering buying the electric vehicle. And 95% of them will install the home charger.

47% of people have their own parking space, and they are willing to rent out their unused space.

③ Realize the car drivers’ entire progress while parking, and if there is an undiscovered pain point by interviewing. Based on the interview, we summarized the user needs as below:

Map

Even if the users who don’t have PPYP(App) account, it’s available to use the map function to see parking. But they don’t have the permission to book parking with the app’s members. Parking Info

When there is more than one parking space nearby, the number of results would be shown on the title of pop-up window. Hidden card design helps the users to drag cards and see more. It’s more clear and intuitive for users to click other images rather than carousels dots.

Reservation Time

Most of people know well Google Calendar, so we refer its design to help the car drivers book a parking space efficiently.

Check

To let check efficiency, we set a credit card and mobile barcode as the default. The users just add the credit card to PPYP’s account for the first time.

Outcome

This App has been launched at Apple Store and Google Play since 2021. It’s accumulating 300 users who are willing to rent their private parking space. These Parkings are all over Taiwan , mainly located in the city like Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaohsiung.

This release lacks several functionalities, such as the lessors’ functions, reservation records and car setting. But the version at the App Store and Google is included with all our plans now. Our next goal is how to increase more drivers to use it, and improve usability.
