Background

This project of owners expects to build a online learning platform to cultivate talents for software industry. Their short-term goal is to acquire the lists of potential talents, but they have no idea how to satisfy the target group. So we do user research to provide a direction about how to make the platform, and to what extent it meets user needs.

There were under 5 online learning platforms in 2015, more than 15 ones in 2022. And according to 2021 Hahow’s studies, the number of people who are willing to spend money on online contents grow from 52.6% to 67.7% in recent one year.

    Research Points:
  • Most of employees at software company have team communication problems, so they buy online courses to resolve.
  • Realize about users’ motivation and habit of choosing online platforms
  • Discover the paths to talent cultivation for two kinds of learners

Solution

We created a user persona on the basis of the user interviews. Its a fictional character that represents the target audience of online learning platforms and has pain points of learning experience.

To sum up the online learning platform process with the users who have recently started working in the tech industry recently. There are 4 pain points that affect begineers’ learning process and effectiveness. Their problem are lack of mentors to direct skills roadmaps, course questions, career preparation, side project.

Outcome

We suggested the target audience for the courses is the 20-35 year-old group with career motivation in tech team. Before preparing the courses, it's good to combine skills roadmaps, systematic instruction, accompanied classes, career coachers into their course syllabus.
